Expo 2025 Experience – Osaka Healthcare Pavilion

At the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025, I visited the “Osaka Healthcare Pavilion.”

The theme of the pavilion is “REBORN,” presenting a diverse array of exhibits that explore the intersections of nature and urban life, technology and health.

The first experience I tried was the “Reborn Experience Route.” Using a dedicated app and wristband, I had my current health status measured, which then generated a projection of what I might look like 25 years into the future.

Many visitors noted that their “Future Self,” shown as an avatar, resembled their parents or grandparents. The health assessment includes rankings across seven categories, prompting meaningful reflection on one’s daily habits and lifestyle.

Another highlight was the “Future Human Washing Machine,” a modern update of the concept first introduced at the 1970 Osaka Expo. This futuristic, fully-automated body-washing machine showcased how a once-radical idea has evolved through Reiwa-era technology and design, drawing interest from visitors of all ages.

The exhibit “Marbled Meat Made at Home” introduced the technology of cultured meat. Eye-catching visuals displayed lab-grown meat printed in star and heart shapes. By incorporating design into appearance, cultured meat was presented not just as a substitute for traditional meat, but as an innovation that enhances the joy of eating itself. While cultured meat still sparks debate, the ability to tailor nutritional content freely makes it a fascinating advancement.

Osaka Metro’s “Future Osaka” visual installation was another notable exhibit, offering a compelling look at the evolution of urban infrastructure. Through immersive imagery, visitors could envision how the city’s landscape and daily life may transform in the years ahead.

The final exhibit I visited focused on iPS cells and featured displays such as cardiac tissue sheets. It offered an accessible introduction to cutting-edge regenerative medicine, showing through models and videos how these technologies are already entering practical use.

Overall, the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion was a well-rounded space that truly allowed visitors to “experience” the future of urban life and health. With themes spanning medicine, architecture, food, and infrastructure, the pavilion’s strength lies in its consistent focus on enhancing human life.
