The other day, I visited “LIGHT CYCLES KYOTO,” an event held at Kyoto Botanical Garden. Usually open only during the day, the garden transforms into a fantastical space of light and sound for this special nighttime event.
This event was organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the garden’s opening and features immersive entertainment created by *Moment Factory*, one of the world’s leading multimedia studios.

The botanical garden reveals a completely different face from its daytime appearance, and the artistry of the presentation is truly awe-inspiring. Various lights envelop the plants, making them glow in the night as if silently brimming with life. With projection mapping and carefully arranged LED lights, the conservatory and garden spaces turned into one grand art installation.
As I walked through the garden, the synchronization of light and sound created an atmosphere that made me feel like I had stepped into a story. The music resonating in the darkness and the gently shifting light displays brought a sense of tranquility to my heart. The plants, illuminated by the lights, revealed expressions different from those seen during the day, making me marvel anew at the natural beauty of their forms.

The plants seemed to “speak” through the fusion of light and sound, coming alive as more than just objects in the space. Each step within the garden conveyed the delicate yet powerful essence of nature, often overlooked in our daily lives.
The auditory design added another layer of depth to the experience, leaving a profound impression. The music and ambient sounds flowing through the tranquil night enhanced the richness of the garden’s atmosphere. Simply standing there felt like stepping away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and entering a special, serene moment—a major charm of this event.

Another highlight was the temporary food area set up for the event. Warm drinks and light snacks were available, offering a thoughtful way to gently warm up on a chilly winter evening.
“LIGHT CYCLES KYOTO” runs until this Thursday, the 26th. Tickets purchased in advance through the official website come with a discount, so be sure to take advantage of it!
