Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14.
First of all, hope you guys had an amazing valentine’s day yesterday wether with significant other or friends. Personally my ex dumped me few days before my birthday and we kinda continued talking as a “friend” but we decided to keep distance for a while right before valentine’s day so I’m pretty much f*cked, but hey, you only live once. (smiling and crying)
Alexis Ren 22, Instagrammer, model and designer shared one post on Instagram about Valentine’s day and this one post made me realize the other side of perspective about our society.
Alexis is very open to the deep subject like eating disorder and mental health and it’s beautiful that she shares her problem and courage her followers who is going through similar problem. She is using her social media platform in a right way and I feel that’s how social media influencers should be.

When I saw this caption, I was amazed. It is so true that we don’t need someone or some event like valentine’s day to feel special. We do not need flowers to feel worthy. We are already beautiful and special just the way we are and the most important thing is that we need to love ourselves before we love someone else. I know it sounds like a cliche you see on Tumblr all the time, but hey, I learned the hard way I swear..
People tend to seek happiness and love when they NEED it, but you can’t find happiness and love from outside source when YOU are not happy with yourself.
When you think about an event like valentine’s day or halloween, it’s just so pointless but people celebrate it because everybody else are celebrating and they don’t wanna be left behind. Ads are everywhere on social media, restaurant, pharmacy, mall and the entire society is expecting us to keep doing it because economic effect behind every event is huge. For example, Americans are expected to spend almost $20 billion on every valentines day.
Why are we even doing this when restaurants are overcrowded and overpriced, same quality roses are doubled priced, and chocolates are unnecessary overpriced just because its heart shaped?
I guess people need some sort of excuse to go out, drink, celebrate and get together because everybody feel lonely wanting instant happiness that it will satisfy us for such a short term.
